Our whole family approach (WFA) programming was formalized in January 2018 to engage the parents of 724 Early Head Start and Head Start families in a comprehensive array of adult self-sufficiency programming. We now provide opportunities for—and meet the needs of—children and their parents together. Over the past year—in partnership with area post-secondary schools, the public transportation authority, public housing authority, the legal aid society, employers, and others—we have developed a comprehensive, community-based model to support success in education and training programs for parents. Now, while their children are preparing for school success, parents are focusing on education, workforce development, and acquiring assets and social capital to create a legacy of economic success that passes from one generation to the next.
