“It is with a heavy heart that Social Development Commission’s Board of Commissioners and Chief Executive Officer announce the death of Commissioner George Matthews. Commissioner Matthews died Wednesday, April 21st from COVID-19 related complications.
Commissioner Matthews represented Milwaukee County residents living in SDC’s District 2. As a commissioner, Matthews was a liaison between SDC and the Sherman Park community where he lived. Matthews worked tirelessly on behalf of residents and SDC to address poverty in the community.
Matthews was a United States Army veteran and also worked in the Milwaukee Public School system. He was dedicated to the community and served with pride and passion. Commissioner Matthews was respected, trusted and understood the needs of the constituents he served.
He will be deeply missed.”
