SUMMARY:CARES Act Loans and Tax Credits for Nonprofit Organizations
DESCRIPTION:The Coronavirus Aid\, Relief and Economic Security Act (the CARES Act)\, which was signed into law on March 27\, 2020\, offers various forms of aid to nonprofit Community Action Agencies (CAAs) and other members of the Community Action network whose operations have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. The CARES Act makes partially-forgivable loans and grants from the Small Business Administration and the U.S. Treasury available to qualifying nonprofit organizations. The CARES Act also offers payroll tax credits for employers that keep paying their employees despite total or partial suspension of operations due to COVID-19\, and pushes back the deadline for certain 2020 payroll taxes altogether. \nJoin CAPLAW as they discuss the details of the new law and identify key considerations for nonprofit CAAs and network organizations seeking to take advantage of these benefits. \nRegister

There will be no standing agenda\, per se\, and it will vary depending on the given issues at the moment. Those who can attend are welcome to do so and this is open to the entire Community Action Network. You will need to register for these events by following the links at the top of the page. These meetings will likely go beyond the four weeks\, but we will assess the frequency\, accessibility\, and usefulness to ensure the next phase of meetings meets the Network’s needs. \nWhile we may be physically distant\, it is imperative that we stay connected during this time. We want to hear from you and be able to share information during this challenging time. \nEach session will allow for questions to be submitted and we will do our best to address them. \nCommunity Action cares about the entire community. And now more than ever we are helping people help themselves and each other. Thank you for all you are doing. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Community Action Plan for COVID-19 Testing and Contact Tracing
DESCRIPTION:The National Community Action Partnership has drafted a concept paper to work with public health partners to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission and prevent the need for future lockdowns through a coordinated case-finding and contact-tracing effort. \nWhile many individuals who can work from home and have healthy support systems are able to quarantine successfully without too much disruption to their lives and families\, for families with low incomes\, additional quarantine orders will likely result in serious financial challenges. Because Community Action Agencies (CAAs) are well positioned to contract with state and local health departments\, we have a unique opportunity to help ensure a rapid and successful launch of the contact tracing and resource coordination efforts necessary in order prevent further lockdowns. \nPlease join us for a discussion on how best we can collaborate in this effort. \nRegister \n

SUMMARY:Conducting a Community Assessment during the COVID-19 Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:The Community Needs Assessment (CNA) is an important part of planning for Community Action in response to local community needs and resources.  Part of this CNA process includes data collection that is traditionally done in-person\, such as focus groups\, key informant interviews\, or town hall meetings.  Modifications that can be made to the CNA process will be discussed\, as well as techniques for data prioritization as agencies are juggling both long-standing and crisis needs.  In addition\, this webinar will review the COVID-19 Community Assessment Update Template & Data Resource Guide as one option for a tool to update the CNA to assist with identifying needs to address in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. \nPresenters:  Aaron Wicks & Courtney Kohler – National Community Action Partnership |  Jamie Kleinsorge – CARES\, University of Missouri \nRegister Here
