SUMMARY:Community Action and the Proposed Changes to the Official Poverty Measure (OPM)
DESCRIPTION:On May 7th\, the Office of Management and Budget issued a request for comment on on a proposal to adjust how the Official Poverty Measure (OPM) is calculated. The proposal could result in an artificially low estimate of the number of children and families who fall below the official poverty line. This could eventually make fewer people eligible for benefits such as SNAP\, Medicaid\, and ACA subsidies\, as well as programs like CSBG\, Head Start\, LIHEAP\, Weatherization\, and many others. This webinar will give an overview of the proposal and the possible impacts on Community Action. We will also share suggested comments and templates that your agency can use to officially weigh in the proposal if you choose. Comments on the Federal Register Notice are due June 21. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Transforming Perspectives: The Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS)
DESCRIPTION:As a society\, we are often presented with many stereotypes and misconceptions about poverty and inequality. How then do we shift our paradigm about poverty away from being seen as a personal failure and toward the understanding of poverty as structural\, or a failure of society? One of the key ways Community Action professionals can respond is through the Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS). \nCAPS is an interactive immersion experience designed to sensitize community participants to the realities of poverty\, and ultimately transform perspectives. \nPlease join the National Community Action Partnership and Missouri Community Action Network on Wednesday\, June 26 to learn more about this powerful tool and how you can use it in your own community to make a lasting impact. \nRegister \n

SUMMARY:Learn About First Nonprofit
DESCRIPTION:Nonprofits typically have fewer unemployment claims than the private sector; therefore\, they often subsidize the state unemployment fund by paying more than necessary. Federal and state laws allow 501(c)(3) organizations to reimburse the state unemployment fund\, rather than pay the SUI tax in advance of having actual claims. FNP’s unemployment programs may well reduce your unemployment costs if you currently participate in the state tax system and can provide you with a safety net if you have already chosen the reimbursable option. \nParticipation in FNP programs provides:\n•Fixed annual cost for budgetary certainty\n•Multiple options for different coverage levels specific to CAP agency needs\n•Knowledgeable team of unemployment specialists to handle all your UI needs\n•Expert claims representation for unemployment hearings and audits\n•Access to training and services that can decrease the number of invalid unemployment claims\n•No pooling or shared risk \nWe encourage you or your designee to register now for this informative webinar. A quote from FNP is free with no obligation to join their program\, so you have nothing to lose! As an added bonus\, Community Action Agencies receive a 20% discount on the one-time enrollment fee. \nRegister
