SUMMARY:2018 Annual Convention
DESCRIPTION:Keynote Presenter: Kathryn Edin\nKathryn Edin is one of the nation’s leading poverty researchers\, working in the domains of welfare and low-wage work\, family life\, and neighborhood contexts. A qualitative and mixed-method researcher\, she has taken on key mysteries about the urban poor that have not been fully answered by quantitative work: How do single mothers possibly survive on welfare? Why don’t more go to work? Why do they end up as single mothers in the first place? Where are the fathers and why do they disengage from their children’s lives? \nHow have the lives of the single mothers changed as a result of welfare reform? Edin has authored 8 books and some 80 journal articles. The hallmark of her research is her direct\, in-depth observations of the lives of low-income women\, men\, and children. \nNote: Kathryn Edin will be available for a book signing following her keynote address. \n2018 Management Leadership Training Conference

SUMMARY:Opportunity Youth in 2Gen Practice
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, the focus for alleviating generational poverty has been on either early childhood education or workforce education and training for parents\, while two‐generation approaches focus on both sets of needs. However\, most 2-Gen approaches focus on parents and young children\, leaving vulnerable adolescents – including the 6.7 million 16 to 24‐ year-olds who are neither working nor in school – without support. \nJoin us on September 12th to engage in a conversation on what steps Community Action Agencies can take serve this increasingly vulnerable population. Experts from ICF International will provide an overview of the challenges facing this demographic\, and provide insights and research to guide CAAs in their service delivery approaches. We will also hear from a field practitioner who will share their lessons learned in this space. \nRegister
